Ima was born in Ottawa, Ontario Canada and she spent parts of her childhood in the United States and several countries in Africa.
She spent her formative years travelling with her parents and her older brother and sister. She was surrounded by a fascinating mix of cultures, customs and traditions. As a toddler, she was often in awe of her surroundings and asked many questions to her exasperating parents, who would exclaim “inquisitive Ima”!
Her never-ending questions fed the short stories that she poured into little notebooks.
As a teenager, she won several prizes for writing and a notable moment was when she won a State wide Essay Competition, with her essay titled, “Unity is Strength”.
Her College and University education includes studies in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Programming and Public Management.
She has a career that spans over two decades and she was named as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 in 2023 by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN), and awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025.
She has an adult son and armoured with adulthood, motherhood and all the seeming contradictions of life, she started her website as an ode to her stories and reflections.
